Nova Scotia 2002

A weeks vacation & two new wheels
sitting in the garage. What's a girl gonna do? Why hit the road of course!
Can't find anyone to go with? Don't let that stop you! That didn't stop me! So
on August 3rd I headed out for Nova Scotia!
Everyone has told me the Maritimes are great and
the people are even better. They were not wrong! Because I only had a week, I
went through New York, Vermont and on into Maine, to cross at Calais/St
Stephen New Brunswick. I needed to be at the St John ferry by 400pm Sunday, so
I had to make Bangor Maine my first day. 887km's later, I pulled into Bangor.
Slept well that night! Up & on the road by 730am Sunday. Route #9 across
to Calais was great. Crossing through the mountains with not much
traffic at that time of day, one could take a few liberties with the twisties.
Once in New Brunswick, I arrived at St. John in
good time. Took the ferry to Digby , Nova Scotia. From Digby, I traveled
to Yarmouth, Bridgewater, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Peggy's Cove & onto
Bedford. From there, I went to Truro, Parrsboro, Amherst & back into New
Brunswick. The roads were not that bad at all, just enough to keep you
entertained.
Like most people traveling through Nova Scotia,
I hit my fair share of Heavy Fog & Rain a couple of days - Sure glad I had
bought my new rain gear before leaving on this trip!!
MOST things were dry - just a little damp after
9 hours of rain. Like anything though, the more you do something the better
you become at it. Even bad weather traveling.
New Brunswick was warmer & much DRYER!
Amazing how cool the coastline can get. While in N.B. I was able to see the
Hopewell Rocks at low tide. Just amazing!! Another interesting place I visited
was the Letite Passage Lighthouse near Back Bay, N.B. At sunset, with
over cast clouds, it was so quiet & peaceful. Made one forget about any
problems one might have. Looking out to the ocean, one could feel real small
in this world.
From New Brunswick I returned home via the
U.S.A. again. Having never traveled much through Vermont or Maine, I didn't
realize what great twistie roads they have through the mountains!! Would
go back to the White Mountain Range in a heart beat!
Before I knew it, I was back in Kingston all to
soon!! Just a little less than 4000km's. Did I have any problems - Not a one.
Would I go alone again - You bet!! The only regret - too many roads & too
many places to see with too little time!!!!!
Ride Safe & Have Fun
